We believe that when one out of four children cannot read, that is one too many. We believe in inspiring readers, sparking imaginations and igniting the desire to learn. We believe that readers become leaders. And, we believe reading is the foundation of all that we can achieve in life. For more than a century, we’ve committed ourselves to creating a more literate and productive society. We’ve changed with the times, but never shifted our vision. The Literacy Fund at Pi Beta Phi Foundation provides the financial support for all Read > Lead > Achieve reading initiatives. Chapter support of The Literacy Fund is critical to the success of Read > Lead > Achieve and our literacy initiatives. Here are some of the ways that Pi Beta Phi at UC Irvine raises awareness and funds that contribute to our national initiatives.
LEMONADE For LITERACY
Lemonade for Literacy is our awareness philanthropy event in the fall. Each fall we set up shop on Ring Road and together our sisters sell lemonade to the UC Irvine community to raise money and awareness for literacy. With each cup we sell we share facts about illiteracy in the US.
PI PHI PARLOR
Each winter quarter we invite the entire UCI community to join us for a night of delicious desserts and games. This all-you-can-eat dessert & sundae bar is a total blast. With good music, speed reads, and pie eating contests, Pi Phi Parlor is our most suggary sweet event of the year. All proceeds from the event go to the Pi Beta Phi Foundation Literacy Fund.
Arrowdayz is our annual speed soccer tournament and our chapter's biggest event of the year. This weeklong event includes restaurant fundraisers, awareness activities at our booth, a book drive, a campuswide and ends in a day-long celebration fulled with soccer games, Pie a Pi Phi, raffles and more. Last year we rasied over $6,000 for Pi Beta Phi Foundation.
